Brijrama Palace was built in 18th century (220 years old) by the Royal house of Nagpur and is one of the oldest structures in Varanasi. It was also known as Darbhanga Mahal for a time in the early 20th century as this palace was acquired by The Maharaja of Darbhanga. Re-christened as Brijrama Palace in its later history, the palace is named after the influential and once mayor of the city, Late Shri Brij Pal Das Ji and his wife, Late Shrimati Rama Devi.
